Meadows in Obora in Lomnice nad Popelkou

The meadow behind the Rohan beech in the Košov Obora

The moist forest meadow on the edge of Lomnická Obora had not been mowed for a long time and the globeflowers occur there, although their number is not high due to the lack of mowing.

We started mowing the 0.7 ha meadow in 2022, our goal is to suppress the invasive lupine and promote biodiversity and natural value of the area by maintaining a mosaic of predominantly forest-free areas with scattered groups of trees and shrubs, suppressing the occurrence of dominant species.

Meadow under the dam of the pond in Obora

The valuable wet meadow, which used to be rich in broad-leaved marsh orchid, had unfortunately not been mown for almost 10 years. The last management work on the site took place in 2007-2013, when the local Bradlecké bučiny association helped to restore the site. Since then, the site has been untended, overgrown and overgrowing with old growth. On the wet meadow we can still find a number of Common Twayblade, a few clumps of the protected globeflowers and also small shrubs of the endangered rosemary-leaved willow - the small shrubs of the endangered rosemary-leaved willow are the only ones in Lomnicko.

Thanks to the mowing and cutting of woody vegetation, which started in 2023, the biodiversity of the site will be strengthened, unsuitable plant species will be suppressed and the condition of the land, which has not been managed for a long time, will be improved.
